Examiner Live Review from Americana Music Showcase

The Nashville Examiner reviewed last night’s Americana Music Association Festival/conference showcase at 3rd & Lindsley and said some very nice things about the guys. Thank you Chris for the kind words!

Here’s what was said about ’em:

“The band given the unenviable task of following Hayes Carll was The Howlin’ Brothers, and there couldn’t have been a better choice. Anyone was going to lose a little of the crowd to the greater majority of them with their high energy 21st century take on old-time music. This trio are some of the brightest stars in Americana’s flourishing youth movement. While they have the requisite beards and banjos to often get lumped into the glut of hipster bait bands following the Mumford & Sons path to success. The Howlin’ Brothers have a musical sincerity and a lyrical depth that takes them beyond many of their peers. They had the crowd dancing for their entire set and likely made
a number of new fans.”

R2-Rock’n’Reel Magazine (UK) Sept/Oct print issue

R2R2-Rock’n’Reel Magazine‘s Sept/Oct print issue (UK) includes a great 5 Star review of TROUBLE. Don’t have a link we can share, but here’s a blurb from it:

“…a veritable roadmap of the American South. Bluegrass, Cajun, folk, honky-tonk, blues – you name it, it’s here. …they know their genres inside-out – and, better yet, they nail every single one of them. Dispatching each track with an absolute minimum of fuss, it’s communal vitality is brilliantly captured by guest producer Brendan Benson (whose buddy Jack White will, one imagines, be absolutely beside himself when he gets around to hearing this). Hard times may be knocking’ throughout, but it’s clear from such ebullient performances that this three-piece couldn’t give a hoot. Tremendous.”

TROUBLE tapped in Rolling Stone as one of “The 26 Albums of 2014 You Probably Didn’t But Really Should Hear”

Rolling Stone posted this nice piece last Friday on “The 26 Albums of 2014 You Probably Didn’t But Really Should Hear”. We’re in some very nice company. Here’s what they said about TROUBLE: “…TROUBLE is a rip-roarin’, hootenanny on wax that puts a rocked-out spin on old-timer bluegrass. Complete with kitchen-sink percussion, front-porch picking’ and hollering’ three-part harmonies, the album careens through cuts like the fast-shufflin’ “Pack Up Joe” and the rockabilly two-step “Pour It Down” with a loose production that puts spirited performances over slick sonics.” – Rolling Stone (8.8.14)

Vintage Guitar Magazine 2/3 Page Piece in Oct Issue

THBvintagepageOct

Vintage Guitar Magazine shows the guys some more LOVE in their October print issue, on newstands beginning in August.

Here’s a quote we pulled from it:

“Like a long-lost radio show from the 50’s suddenly coming to life on your radio in the late nighttime hours, this hard-driving trio summons forth the sounds of old-time bluegrass, vintage country, and roaring rockabilly. The Howlin’ Brothers have one foot tapping time in tradition, the other kicking down it’s doors.”
